Labor Day Weekend Festivities

On Saturday night, we went to the 32nd Annual Balloon Classic in Colorado Springs. There were 77 balloons this year. All weekend long they have all sorts of events that you can attend. On Saturday and Sunday morning they launch them all into the air. I have heard it is a spectacular sight! We went on Saturday night with our Uncle Jerry & Aunt Kathy to the Balloon Glo.

It was amazing to see that many balloons lit up all at once! And difficult to capture on camera! There were also food booths and rides set up, similar to a fair. We all went to Red Robin for ice cream afterwards. It was a fun night!

On Sunday night, we went to a birthday party for my other dear friend here in Colorado, Denise Morris. I also met her at Focus on the Family Institute. She now works at Focus as an editor for TrueU.org. It is a great resource for college students. Denise is a very talented writer. Check it out! Tell a friend...especially if you know some college students!

There were 40 people at this sit down meal! Micah, who also went to Focus, cooked for everyone and was an excellent host! I am so in awe of her talent. I would have been a stressed out wreck. The great thing about the Springs is there is a large, young adult, Christian community. A lot of the ones that were at this gathering graduated from the FFI at some point. It was a fun night. Happy Birthday, Denise!

On Monday, Labor Day, the plan was to have a cookout at our apartment complex. But instead of buying the charcoal, we ended up cooking on our grill in our apartment and eating inside...it was just easier than hauling everything down to the picnic tables. What I loved though was the fact that we had enough room at our table for everyone! We just pulled the leaf out and there would have been room for eight!

The only thing is we only have 4 chairs and I wasn't prepared since we were planning on eating outside. So we had one chair from our office and then the sixth chair was a lawn chair that sits really low! Everyone was laughing at me all night because they said I looked like a kid at the table!

Here's Amber and Josh again...we are loving that they live out in CO.

And this is Matt and Jess. Jess and Amber teach at the same school in the Springs. We loved getting to know this couple. They were so fun! And very good at Dutch Blitz. We barely had a chance! But we are up for a rematch if they can handle us!

Matt and I really enjoyed our weekend and are loving this season of our life. In Indiana, we would have never dreamed of being able to hang out with so many of our friends in one weekend. We often had to pick and choose because of Matt's studies and also the fact that he had to get up early on Saturday morning to work. We enjoyed that season of our life as well...we didn't know any better! But are grateful to now have had time to enjoy our friends and family as well as grateful to have friends and family to enjoy!
