I can't believe our baby turned one on Thursday! We started the day heading over to the gym with Josh in a FORWARD facing car seat for the first time!
I think he loved it.
We bought Nathan a booster seat and cleaned Nathan's old one up for Josh!
We've since adjusted the "wings" for Josh's head too! They are a little high here :)
After the gym we ran over to the VanHorn's to pick up this awesome cake Jen made for Josh!
This girl is amazing. She even went back to look at pictures on the blog of Josh's nursery!
Seriously, how cute is this cake?
She volunteered to do it and claims it wasn't a big deal...but it's hard to believe! We love her cakes.
She even made some cupcakes for us!
When Josh woke up from his nap and Matt was home we let him open his gifts from his pap and grandma. A Curious George dog that has since been named "Charkie". (Charkie is an actual dog in one of Nathan's Curious Georgie movies.)
A book about puppies!
Jeans from Grandma too! Josh really needed some jeans. Grandma said she'd pay for some and Matt bought some on his way home from work since he was done early. I was quite impressed by my husband's shopping skills. Josh is not easy to find a waist that is little enough...unlike how I shopped for his big brother Nathan at this age :) They are super cute. Thanks, mom.
And the big present from pap & grandma...a CAT 3-in-one toy!
Here's a video of him with his gifts.
Thankfully, Jamin was a sweetheart earlier that day and let Nathan borrow his excavator. That helped some with the night being all about Josh :) I wasn't expecting that part. It was kind of tough for Nathan. I have a feeling Jen saw this coming.
Oh yeah, these are our new photos on the wall.
Me and the birthday boy.
This toy grows with baby/toddler. He can push it now to help him walk, and then ride it when he's older!
It came with a cool tool box too that he loves to put his tools and screws in and out of.
It makes lots of fun noises too.
Hey! That's me!
His Aunt Court bought him some super cute new kicks!
:)
They're still a bit big...but he'll love wearing them when he's running around!
Thanks Aunt Court! So sweet of you to get him something.
Cake time! Check out the video. It's a long one!
Josh really enjoyed his cake :)
Nathan's not as impressed with icing on his fingers as Josh is :)
Josh was pounding the cake by this point!
Then he just decided to go for it.
Nathan thought that was hilarious.
Do you see the MIDDLE? Jen told Nathan there was a surprise in the middle and I just thought she meant it was tie dyed because she said she had leftovers from her niece's party who she made tie dyed cake for! Turns out, she decided Josh needed his own and so she made it BRONCOS colors to convert him early. ha ha! She should be in so much trouble...but we like her cake too much! It gave us a good laugh :)
Nathan sneaking a bite.
Josh getting cleaned up and Nathan...oh dear.
My dinner was taking longer to cook through than I expected, so we did the cake first, and now it's time for dinner!
It was chicken, broccoli, stuffing, shredded cheese, ranch dressing and bacon bits in foil that I threw into the oven. Josh loved it!
While we ate, we watched his First Year slideshow that Matt and I made for him.
If you want to view it, you can see it here. We had to upload it in a smaller quality, but you can still make it full screen to see it better...it just won't be as clear.
This was really fun to watch as a family. Josh & Nathan were both totally into it.
Not much to look at it, but it really was good!
More time to play!
Nathan kept playing the slideshow over again. Here he's saying, "that's you and me, Josh".
Ready for bed! Some new pjs from Grandma! We were looking up the Curious George show to see "Charkie" and find out if that dog looked similar to Josh's dog. I'm thinking it's "Charkie" because of the charcoal color of the dog's fur. At first I thought it was "Sharky!"
Thanks, Grandma for a great birthday! :)
We love you so much, Joshua Owen! How are you one already?
Nathan loved this car stamp :)
We were so proud of ourselves for getting the boys down by 8. But then it was a rough night. Nathan seemed to need some extra love. I asked him if he had a good day and he said, "No". ha ha! He always says yes! When I asked him why he said he wanted to play with Josh's toys! I tried to explain to him that it was Josh's birthday and we didn't make Nathan share his jeep with Josh when he first got it either. I told him how we loved them both equally, that some days will be more about one than the other, etc, etc. I even laid in his crib with him! Who knows if that was really all that was wrong or if it was the combination of Josh's day and that Nathan was starting to get a bit of a cold (or allergies?), and the fact that he wouldn't eat much dinner and when he wanted something to eat at bedtime we stuck to our guns that he could not have a snack since he didn't eat much dinner. Anyway, the next evening he ate dinner very well and slept much better! So I think the point was made! Josh only slept poorly on the night of his birthday for the first few hours when Nathan was crying loudly in his crib. So much for being smart and getting the boys down right at 8! :)
Still, a very good birthday for our little one year old whose smile melts our heart, whose head nuzzling warms our souls and whose skin is softer than any skin we've ever touched before! Our Nurse Practitioner even wanted to know what kind of lotion we use. We love you, sweet Josh!

What fun I had looking at your pictures of the big birthday boy. Loved the videos too. Such a happy boy. So hard for Nathan to be three tho and not be the center of attention. He does really well tho I think being the second child. I think it was pretty obvious he loved his cake.
