Hail & Rain Storm

We had quite the storms here in Colorado this past week.  Most people got it a lot worse then us...especially in Denver.  But they came two nights in a row.  Here Matt took a picture out our front window of the hail.

We didn't even think to check the basement or anything, so when I went down to get lightbulbs for the electrician the next day (who was installing bathroom fans) I wasn't expecting to find this!

Yikes.

Thankfully, we had done a lot of work in the basement in the past few weeks and all that was in that corner was the paint that we needed to dispose of and several boxes for Goodwill.   The source of entry for the water invading our basement?

Our window well.  You can see where the leaves are is the line that it was up to.  It was easy to figure out what happened since we had also just cleaned the window frames and the cleaned out the window well.

We are so grateful it only came through the window...a much easier fix than it could have been!

So of course, the investigation led to outside.  Check out our mulch!

You can see where the water pooled up along the edge and drained out to the road.  Notice where the red mulch is showing through.

A bit of mess although minor to a lot of things people were dealing with in the Springs.

Our electrician and his assistant were awesome.  Just because they are nice guys they got to the bottom of the problem for me.  They investigated in the basement and outside.  It appeared that most of our water from our roof piled up here.

From this downspout.

It just rained so heavily and so much (the MOST it has in the last 100 years in Colorado Springs) that it overflowed in to our window well here.

By the time they left they had it figured out what would be the easiest and least expensive way to fix our problem...especially in the future if we were to ever finish the basement!  I really appreciated them checking it out so I knew if it was a big deal, or not so much.  They were right too about where the water piled up because the following night when we had another storm Matt and I ran out to check it out.  Sure enough...from our own downspout.   The neighbors did not seem to be contributing too much to the pond!  I was thankful for that.  This was actually a great test to find out if we did have any water issues and what the worst case scenario would be.

Matt & Nathan cleaning up!

Cute, right?

These towels were all ready to go to Goodwill.  I suppose I should keep them around for things such as this!

Good thing our stuff was in the OTHER corner on shelves!

Finally feeling organized down here!  How did we fill up all of these shelves already?

Oh my, I wonder how Jerry and Kathy faired. I will have to call. This reminds me of our house in Dixon with the water problems. Not a fun time. Nathan, you are such a helper for your Dad.
