The Saturday before Easter Sunday we had our neighborhood Easter Egg hunt. Matt went with Nathan to his age group.
And I stayed with Josh for his.
Got one!
Honestly, that was like the only one he got. Easter egg hunts are kind of ugly. All the kids make a mad dash and little guys like Josh that are taking their time totally miss out! I kept leading him to an egg and this other boy would run right up and take it! This happen 3 times in a row before his dad told him to stop doing it. But by then, all of the eggs were gone.
Josh didn't care. He got one egg!
And what a beauty it was!
We ran into the Barrington's who live in our neighborhood and were in our hold small group.
I was hoping Nathan fared better and could share with Josh.
Unfortunately, he did not. He was the youngest in his age group and all of the other kids raced and got them all. I think he got 2 or 3? The eggs were all gone in less than 2 minutes...for both age groups. It's just a mad dash! He wasn't happy. He's learning life isn't fair.
This nice Easter bunny improved his lot.
Picture with daddy. We all discussed the morning happenings and how frustrating and competitive it felt. I noticed on Facebook a lot of parents seemed to feel this way. We wondered if next year, we should bring our own basket of eggs filled with candy, and instead of focusing on ourselves and how many eggs we got (or our kid's didn't), and being irritated with other parents and children, that we could focus on others. Nathan liked the idea of looking around for other kids that might be feeling the way he did on that day because he didn't get eggs, and then handing some out to them from his basket to make their experience better. Now let's see if we do it!
