Matt and I spent a week in Indianapolis around Labor Day this year. We have been looking forward to this trip all summer and were excited to spend quality time with family and see some dear friends that we have not seen since we moved from Indy a year ago. We were able to squeeze quite a bit in and really enjoyed catching up with everyone!
When we arrived at the airport in Colorado Springs...we ran into several friends who were flying into Denver also before their final destination!
The first night we were in Indy, we went to Adam & Jessie's to hang out with several friends from college and our first few years of marriage. It was so fun to reconnect with all of them! This is Adam with their youngest, Jocelyn. Isn't she ADORABLE?
Funny, only three of the wives were able to come this night! But we had fun. This is Jessie, me & Mal.
Grandma & Grandpa and Mark & Rosie also came to Indy for the first weekend we were there. All of us went to the Dodgens (family friends) on Sunday afternoon after church.
On Monday, the six of us kids played a little backyard (or should I say frontyard) football!
Mark, Courtney & I pulled out a win this time so we decided to do a celebratory pyramid picture. Here is me jumping off of the pyramid. I never would have made it as a cheerleader!
We also went to a park to take some pics while we were all together. The men:
The ladies:
Matt & his Grandma Johnson
Mom & Dad Witt
Tuesday, Matt went with Dad, Mom, Mark, Rosie & Nicole to the Colts stadium.
I spent the day with my previous boss, Traci, from Angels of Mercy Home Health Care. That night I went out to dinner with Kelly and we came back to the house to hang out with the family afterward. Kelly is a social worker that I met when I was marketing for Angels of Mercy. Now she is a dear friend.
On Wednesday, Matt & I spent the day with Mom and Dad Witt in downtown Indy. I love that area of town and we enjoyed spending time with his parents.
Mom W. and I looking for bears at the zoo! We didn't see any.
We also stopped at NIFS (National Institute for Fitness and Sports) where Matt used to work while he was in Physical Therapy school.
We met up with Nicole after she got out of class and headed to Rock Bottom for dinner. YUM!
Thursday, Matt met up with a friend from PT school, Matt Jurek. Who just got married by the way. Congrats Matt & Leah!
While Matt went to see Jurek, I went to Jessica's house to see her and Brittny. And their adorable children, Wesley (Derek & Jessica's) and Olivia (Kenton & Brittny's). So cute! Derek & Jessica are expecting a little girl very soon!
Thursday night Mom, Dad, Matt and I went to Beech Grove, where Matt and I lived our first two years of marriage. We visited our old apartment complex:
And went to Hungry Howie's for Cinnamon Crazy Bread. I LOVE these!
Hungry Howie's was our big splurge for dinner when we lived in Indy. We would usually go at the end of the month if we had enough money left in our food budget. Good times.
Friday morning, we had breakfast with Mom Witt at Panera before heading up to Indiana Wesleyan University. Matt found a nice treat in the parking lot of Panera!
IWU is where we both received our undergrad degrees and where Courtney (Matt' sister) is in her senior year. She is going to be a RN! Courtney's lodge:
Courtney with her roomates in their cute living room!
That night we met up with Mike & Latrese Moffitt and went to their son's highschool football game. I met Latrese in college when she was the interim Chaplain and we instantly hit it off. I worked with her in the Multicultural Student Affairs department and continued to spend time with her the year after I graduated and worked in IWU Admissions. This woman means the world to me as she provided me with godly mentoring during pivotal stages of my life as I was making critical decisions that would impact my future...career, marriage, moving etc. She was just what I needed in college and I thank God for allowing our lives to intersect! Mike and Latrese are a dynamic, God-honoring couple that both work at IWU and we have had the privilege to get the know through the years. I also spent a lot of time with their kids, Michael and Janea, two incredible kids who I loved to babysit!
Oh yes, side note: Latrese was an Olympian for the high jump.
Michael towers over me now and Janae is not far behind!
We stayed over night at their house after the game. I begged to watch the video of Mike's NFL debut. He played for the Packers. It was great!
We headed back to Indy on Saturday afternoon. And attended Nicole's church on Sunday morning.
Uncle Bill and Denise visited the second weekend we were there also. It was good to see Uncle Bill and nice to meet Denise! Mom and Courtney had to work at the hospital on Sunday so we took them Chinese!
We flew back late on Sunday.
